By far, "Do you make a facial bar with charcoal?" is one of the most recently asked questions that we've gotten. As we do with all of our original recipes, we did loads of research, asked loads more questions, and experimented until we developed a recipe that we think will meet customer expectations and the high standards for all of Kumbha Moon Soap Company's products. The activated charcoal that we use starts out as regular charcoal made from bio-based ingredients such as peat, wood, or coconut shells. The regular charcoal is then super heated so that it forms small cavities or pores within its structure; these "pores" remain even after the activated charcoal is ground to a powder. The charcoal's pores act as a natural absorbent that help to gently draw oil, dirt, and toxins from skin, making it a perfect addition to skin care products, especially for problem skin conditions.
Our Charcoal + Tea Tree facial bar starts with our rich soap base that includes avocado oil, known to be rich in skin nourishing vitamins A, B, D, and E and also produces a luxurious lather. We then add a generous amount of activated charcoal, to help gently absorb excess oil and toxins, and 100% all-natural tea tree essential oil, known for it's antimicrobial and antiseptic properties.
To use: Gently rub soap bar in a wet wash cloth to work up a lather; gently apply to face being careful to avoid eye areas. Rinse with cool water; pat face dry.
Note: Due to the nature of hand-crafted soap and the intense color of activated charcoal, some "leeching" of soap color may occur (non-staining). In between uses, always store hand-crafted soap in a soap dish that allows standing water to drain away from the soap product.
